Good to know: Parish registers are kept in parishes or dioceses (these are private records, requesting a record is paid).
Civil registration was established in 1870, records depend on the Spanish Ministry of Justice. Online record consultation is difficult; you often need to make free requests to retrieve a record.
There are no decennial indexes, but annual indexes exist. There are no civil marriage records (only religious ones). Baptism records can contain a lot of information about the parents and grandparents of the baptized.
