Goal 2113, Genealogy of Tomorrow

Genealogy is often synonymous with the past. We wonder what our ancestors did, who they were… We think less about the future, though.

Goal 2113, Genealogy of Tomorrow

In today's article, we are in 2113 and we offer you a day in the life of Eléa, 26, a young genealogy enthusiast.

8:15

It's time for Eléa to wake up. She slept well, her connected mattress confirms this. With her mind, she triggers the opening of the shutters and the preparation of her coffee. It's also time for her to get ready for work (yes, unfortunately, in 2113, we still work ;-)). So, she enters her smart capsule, which tells her she is in good health, she takes a shower there, dries herself in less than 30 seconds, and the same capsule suggests an outfit suitable for the weather.

8:45

Quick breakfast: a coffee, a Pancake pill, and a Kiwi pill, and here she is already putting on her hybrid electric rollers and her augmented reality helmet to go to work.

9:10

Eléa arrives at the underground skyscraper where her office is. She has been a Digital Death Manager for two years. She manages the community of deceased people on social networks. It's this job that made her wonder a lot about her ancestors.

12:00

Time to go home and on the menu for lunch, a chef’s dish printed directly from her 3D printer. Again, with her mind, she projects the day's news on her wall. Oh, look! The first men have just settled on Mars, what an adventure! Eléa never works in the afternoon; actually, it's her double, an artificial intelligence, that takes over.

ChatBot is scratching at the door. It's her holographic companion cat. He loves games and cuddles... and no need to feed him

13:30

Eléa has the whole afternoon to focus on her genealogy. She has been interested in her ancestors since everything has become so much simpler. In 2113, physical archives are closed to the public and there is only one database, fully indexed and named to find records or trees. Everything that is found there is decoded and read aloud thanks to an artificial intelligence. Like her, most people don’t know how to write and rarely use a pencil. When she was little, everything was done on a keyboard, but today, everything is done by voice.

Another AI is capable of reconstructing a hologram of her great-grandmother. She never knew her but often talks to her. She especially loves all the stories and anecdotes that she can tell her (also recreated by an AI - at that time, in the 2010s, most of her ancestors' actions were compiled by Google). Eléa also finds herself thinking about the future; will we find robots and humanoids in our genealogy?

Sometimes she even uses her virtual reality helmet to immerse herself in the life of her ancestors. She walks through the streets of the small town where her paternal great-great-grandparents lived, and thanks to this helmet, she can even feel the wind and the smells of the village. Eléa can truly go back in time; many eras and universes have been recreated and allow a 'back to the future' from her couch. The era she prefers? The 1950s!

17:30

Her tablet rings and reminds her of the order; it's time for her appointment with a friend. They met on an app. This same app also told them that they are distant cousins, they have the same great-great-great-grandparents. At the time of space conquest, the discussion quickly turns to the DNA test. They struggle to understand how so many people could have accepted being registered in such a huge database... Their biggest fear is that in times of war, the government might use this DNA database to decide who will be lucky enough to survive and who won’t.

19:30

Eléa goes home. Tonight it will be quick, a pill and to bed! She will end her day in front of a good movie, specially created in real-time for her based on her thoughts and feelings.

2113, it's tomorrow... We hope this little leap into the future has been enjoyable for you.
