4 Genealogy Tree Improvements on Geneafinder

©️Geneafinder

Adding People from the Genealogy Tree

This is a great new feature on Geneafinder! You can now add people and events directly from the tree visualization.

To do this, click on the View Tree button in the menu. Your tree now appears directly in Edit Mode. Thanks to this edit mode, two buttons are displayed next to the names of the people in your tree:

- The Edit Profile (pencil icon) button: it allows you to access the event and information entry space for a person with one click. As in the entry interface accessible from the Complete the Tree button in the menu, you can add, modify, or delete events, dates, places, and family links.

- The Add Person (plus icon) button: it allows you to add a new person related to the selected person. By clicking on this button, you can choose the family link with this new person: parent, child, or spouse. The entry space opens, and you can enter the personal details of the new person: name, first name, gender, and events. You can check that the family link between the two people exists - it is displayed on both of their profiles.

Geneafinder-Add a Person

To view your tree without seeing the edit/add buttons, click on the Show/Hide Buttons (person and pencil icon) button. This is how you can switch from View Mode to Edit Mode for your genealogy tree.

Of course, you can also add new people or access existing profiles in the entry space accessible from the Complete the Tree button in the menu.

Choose the Number of Generations to View in the Tree

Another new feature: you can now choose the number of generations in your genealogy tree that you want to view. To do this, in the tree visualization tool, click on the arrows in the top right corner to display an information bar. Adjust the number of generations and then click on the View button (eye icon). You can change this parameter at any time.

Search and View a Person in the Tree

This feature has been around for a long time, but are you using it correctly? Using the search bar in the information bar, you can easily find a person in your genealogy tree. Start typing a name or first name and click on the person you want to view. This person appears as the new root person. You can, from this root person, navigate in your tree by clicking on the Ancestors/Descendants buttons.

Change the Orientation of the Genealogy Tree

Some of you have already tried it - changing the orientation of the genealogy tree! Vertical or horizontal, it's your choice. To change the orientation, simply click on the Genealogy Tree button in the top left corner.

Just a reminder: the color code is not random! It helps you organize your research. Indeed: a green individual = you have found their birth, marriage, and death - a yellow individual = you have found at least two of these events - a red individual = you are missing a lot of information. This way, you know where to (re)start your genealogical research!
