Geneafinder is designed for all genealogists, enthusiasts, beginners, and also those who are short on time.
From your customized dashboard, you can start in 2 different ways on Geneafinder :
- By creating your family tree from the beginning - Click on "Add a person" and start by entering your information or that of a relative. A .ged file will be automatically created.
- By importing your existing family tree in .ged format. - Click on the "Import file" button. Consult our resources to learn how to export your genealogy from another software or site.

Geneafinder does not automatically add new individuals to your genealogy. It's up to you, genealogist seeking your ancestors, to add individuals to your family tree as your research progresses.
If you just created a tree, just start by adding a person.
If you imported a tree in .ged format, you can easily find the list of individuals in your tree by clicking on "Complete the tree".
Individuals are automatically sorted by completeness - according to the number of information entered. The color code tells you if you are missing important elements (towards red) or if, on the contrary, you have a lot of information (towards green). You can easily navigate through the list of individuals in your tree by sorting them alphabetically by first or last name, or chronologically by birth or death dates. Filters are also at your disposal for even faster search!
Adding people to your family tree is simple!
You can add as many as you want, modify them, or delete them, without limit.
By clicking the "Add a person" button from the list of people in your tree, you will arrive at an editing interface for the individual profile you wish to add.
You just need to add their first name, last name, and gender to start.
You can then add the events that concern them: birth, baptism, marriage, death... And much more! On Geneafinder you will find over 40 different events to enrich your ancestors' records (engagements, burial, adoption, recognition, divorce, naturalization...).
What matters in genealogy are the relationships between people. Who is the father of someone, the sister of another, and their children. When recording a new event, you can easily add a parent, a spouse, or witnesses. Once these elements are entered, the relationships, or the different branches of your tree, will be automatically generated by Geneafinder.
A click on the civil status of the individual allows you to easily see the relationships that connect them to other people in your genealogy.
Retrieving the .ged file of your family tree can be useful for sharing or creating an additional backup.
By clicking the "Export tree" button, your family tree in .ged format will be automatically saved to your computer.
It is not necessary to re-import it after retrieval.
